je ne regrette rien

This is what I wore to church on a rainy Sunday. I wish I had closer details of this outfit. I guess I'll have to remix the pieces in the next couple weeks. I'm so glad Spring is officially here, even though she began with a snowy, rainy day yesterday. Bring on the sunshine!

On a completely different note, I got my hair done last week and I'm loving the color. Also, I've been listening to a lot of Edith Piaf lately and daydreaming about traipsing around Paris.

What have you been up to lately?

an open letter to my 4G ipod

We joked that this picture summed up the life of a single female at a Christian college.
(photo taken in 2005 months after I got my ipod)

The year was 2005 when we met. It was just after my 20th birthday. I had my eye on you for months. Everyone who knew you raved about you and how awesome you were. I just had to have you for my own.

I had worked 50 hour weeks all summer, trying to earn money for the coming school year. I was exhausted and was looking for a fun reward for myself for all my hard work. After a long day at work my sister and I headed to Best Buy on a mission. We found you in the music isle with your cohorts: the classic 4G ipod. A helpful employee unlocked the shining glass case you were sitting behind and handed you to me in your bright white box. I couldn’t wait to get you home and fill you with my favorite songs.

I remember that fall, putting in my ear buds as I left my apartment and walked across campus; I felt so cool with you in my pocket. You filled my ears with the music of Brian Fennell, Ben Kweller, Death Cab for Cutie, Jason Mraz and more; my feet kept time with the beat as I crunched leaves and walked to class with a spring in my step. I really did have a soundtrack for my life and it was beautiful.

You have been in my life for seven years. You have filled my life with music that expressed feelings and emotions I wasn’t sure how to. You let me sing along loudly to the Hairspray soundtrack as I drove around California, on my own for the first time. You distracted me with Colbie Callait when it was too difficult to process a friend’s cancer diagnosis. You have sung me to sleep, softly playing Bon Iver, when I was anxious about the future. You filled road trips to Vegas with fun sing-along songs, including Katy Perry’s ‘Waking up In Vegas’ and ‘I’ll Make a Man Out of You’ from Mulan soundtrack. You have kept me company on countless airplanes, allowing me to immerse myself in the voices of Adele and The Civil Wars.

You have always been faithful to me. Since I first got you, many newer ipods have been released, ipod nano, ipod mini, ipod shuffle, ipod touch; right after I got you the color screen was released, but I couldn’t be happier with you just as you are. Many have complained about the reliability and durability of ipods, but you remain strong, never giving me technical troubles and always happy to play a charming tune. Last year my teenage cousins asked what you were, as your younger cohorts are slimmer and sleeker and you are a bit bulky and brick-like in comparison; I was proud to claim you as my ipod.

Thank you, ipod, for filling my ears with lovely music and giving my life a beautiful soundtrack.

All my love,
Heather

looking forward

I feel like I have so many things to look forward to this week. It's shaping up to be a busy week, but there are so many fun things that I cannot wait for.

1. My jewelry from Ashlee's training show should arrive on Tuesday!

2. Red Velvet Spring Collection is released tomorrow. I think I might need to get the Bike Ride Dress!

3. I'm getting a sweet tax refund and treated myself to a couple pairs of Seychelles. My fave!

4. I'm going to Twin Falls this weekend. Ashlee has her first jewerly show and I'll get to see my grandma for the first time since Christmas. This is her on her 90th birthday last year.

5. Tyrone is playing in Boise on Wednesday and Ashlee and I are doing merch for him again. I am loving his new album. It's been on repeat in my car since it came out.

What are you looking forward to this week?

one girl in all the world, a chosen one

This outfit is a bit of a remix of this outfit from last month. I only realized after I took the pictures that it's nearly the same. Just a shorter dress and bright tights. I added hipster glasses after taking pictures and wore this outfit to celebrate the adoption finalization of my cousin's son. After all, nothing says "Welcome to the family baby James!" quite like bright mustard tights.

I always feel very 90's when I wear my Jungle Boots by Seychelles. I told my sister that I was going to study with Felicity and Julie, then I was off to Kimmy Gibler's birthday party with DJ Tanner, but I hoped Kathy Santoni wasn't invited and afterward I was going to patrol for vampires with Buffy, Willow and Xander.

Music Monday: Safe & Sound

I don't know why it's taken me so long to post the official music video for Safe and Sound by Taylor Swift and The Civil Wars. You all know about my obsession with them. I'll take any excuse I have to share this musical loveliness.

jewelry, enrollments and piano! oh my!

Hello my sweets! It's been quiet on the blogging front, which bums me out because there is so much rolling around in my head and I want to share it all. I just cannot believe how busy life has been! I've hardly had a spare moment to do anything but breathe and run to the next thing.

Work has been so crazy! We are growing by leaps and bounds, which is wonderful, however so much change means lots of growing pains. Everyday has been jam packed with things to do, which has made time fly by.

On top of work, I'm still helping/leading/coordinating our church's worship team. I have a profound respect for worship leaders since I've begun. It is time consuming and challenging. Plus there are dozens of opinions flying around that you have to make sense of and take with a grain of salt. I'm learning, as a friend on the team said, "You can please some people all of the time and all people some of the time, but you can never please all people all of the time."

I've also been taking piano lessons. Did I tell you that? You guys!!! I'm taking PIANO LESSONS! I feel like I'm doing something I always should have been doing. My teacher is amazing! Finding her was a completely divine experience. I stumbled upon her website when searching for lessons in the area. I held onto her name for a few weeks before giving her a call and signing up for weekly lessons with her. I started the second week in February and I never want to stop. I already feel like I've learned so much and I love having the one-on-one time with my teacher. Plus she lets me pick a sucker after my lesson. Probably so the seven year old before me and the three year old after me don't make me jealous.

Oh, and my sister just signed up as a Premier Designs Jeweler. It's especially cool because I get to borrow her "jewels". She is having her launch party tomorrow night and I am thrilled for her. I'm fairly certain our house will be bursting with women playing in jewelry tomorrow night. I think she is going to be so successful! If you are interested in having a catalog party for her or if you live in the area and want to host a party, just let me know. Nothing beats earning free jewelry!

Last, but not least, I want to thank you for being such great readers. Many times I feel like my writing is going out to the void, but I know you silent readers are along for the ride. Thanks loves.
