goodbye february. hello march.

I'm ready for a new month! Are you?

Weekend at Camp Perkins

Hello sweet readers. I was finally able to sort through my cell phone pictures from this weekend. I took over 50 on my phone, so here are just a few. With my photo's, my mom's, aunt's and sister's, we probably have a few hundred. This weekend was a wonderful break away from reality, but it is nice to be home. To see more pictures check out my sister's blog post about the weekend.

February Wrap-Up and March Goals

February: Creativity
-Stitch a needlework/embroidery sampler (#20)
-Scrapbook (#10)
-Finish paintings I’ve already begun & start #24
-Update my etsy shop (#23)
-Participate in Kendi’s 30x30

February was another challenging month, but I was glad to have my Happiness Project to focus on. I think I would be lost without it. Here are my final February thoughts and my goals for March.

I didn’t get around to the needlework/embroidery, but I have gotten many other things accomplished.

Scrapbooking was a success this weekend. I wish I could have gotten more done, but I think I’ve finally gotten into a rhythm for digital scrapbooking. I was surprised at the emotions that arose when I was working on my photos. They were from 2007 when I moved to California to attend Concordia for my DCE Certificate (and started my blog). My life then is such a contrast from my life today.

As I showed in my update I finished the paintings I had begun; I even started another. I’m still figuring out how to proceed on my Love painting though. I’ll be sure to share the final product when it is complete.

Also in my previous update, I mentioned that I was closing my etsy shop and would open a Big Cartel shop. This is still in the works, but I will be sure to let you know when it is up and running.

Participating in Kendi’s 30x30 remix challenge has kept me going this month. I always find that I feel better and more confident when I like my outfit. This challenge has motivated me to try new things with my wardrobe; I have paired and combined pieces that I wouldn’t otherwise have. I’m looking forward to utilizing my entire wardrobe in new ways, because I cannot afford to add to my wardrobe. I’ll be finishing up the remix on Friday and I’m working on making my last few outfits some of the best.

So, what is March going to be about? My theme is Work. This is an interesting topic to cover as I don’t have a job. I am still doing Wildtree, but I am looking into getting a full time or part time job so I can save up and move out of my parents’ house. So my goals for the month are as follows.

-Create a routine
-Work smart, work hard
-Apply for ten jobs a week
-Ask for help
-Book six tastings (for March and into April)

day twenty six: i was a flight risk with a fear of falling

Today is the last day of February. That seems unfathomable. Only four outfits left in my first 30x30 remix. I'll be doing a February recap along with my goals for March for my Happiness Project. I also want to share my weekend in cell phone pictures with you, but I took so many that's I need to narrow them down first.

if you want me to

As I have been scrapbooking there has been more reflecting and emotions than I initially thought there would be. I've been working on my photos from 2007, from around the time when I began my blog and moved to California. So much has changed since then. As I've been looking at my photos the lyrics to Ginny Owens' song, If You Want Me To, came into my head. It seems so relevant.

The pathway is broken
And The signs are unclear
And I don't know the reason why You brought me here
But just because You love me the way that You do
I'm gonna walk through the valley
If You want me to

Cause I'm not who I was
When I took my first step
And I'm clinging to the promise You're not through with me yet
so if all of these trials bring me closer to you
Then I will walk through the fire
If You want me to

It may not be the way I would have chosen
When you lead me through a world that's not my home
But You never said it would be easy
You only said I'd never go alone

So When the whole world turns against me
And I'm all by myself
And I can't hear You answer my cries for help
I'll remember the suffering Your love put You through
And I will go through the valley If You want me to

day twenty four: and maybe it will all come back to me

This might be my favorite outfit so far. It could be the simplicity of it. It could be my sister's scarf that I borrowed. But I think it is probably because of the setting. As I said in my earlier post, I have been enjoying my time up at Camp Perkins. It is probably one of my favorite places in the world. Today is for scrapbooking, snowshoeing, night luging, spa time (foot baths and hot hand wax) and hopefully more wine and a movie.

day twenty three: i told you to be patient

I just realized the irony in the song lyrics I picked for this post. I have been a little behind with the 30x30, but I'm finding out that I can make this challenge work for me and not the other way around. This outfit is from yesterday. I wore this for our drive up to Camp Perkins for the winter crafting retreat. I am really enjoying my time up here. Last night I got a handful of scrapbooking pages done, drank some wine and watched Easy A.

down and out

Hi friends! As you can tell I didn't post a new 30x30 outfit yesterday and unfortunately I don't think I'll be posting one today. I've been feeling totally miserable as I get terrible cramps each month. I'll just add the two extra days onto the end and pick up again tomorrow.

Yesterday was spent on the couch watching High School Musical 2 and playing Angry Birds. (Yes, I'm a 25 year old woman even though I sound like a 12 year old.) Today will probably be similar, but I also need to pack for the crafting retreat this weekend. I hate feeling debilitated by cramps. Ladies, what are some of your cramp remedies?

The Discipline of Spiritual Perseverance

This is today's entry of My Utmost For His Highest by Oswald Chambers. My dear friend, Janelle texted me this morning and said that it reminded her of me. I immediately went and found my copy. I'm so glad she shared this with me, because this was exactly what I needed to hear.

"Be still and know that I am God..." Psalm 46:10

Perseverance is more than endurance. It is endurance combined with absolute assurance and certainty that what we are looking for is going to happen. Perseverance means more than just hanging on, which may be only exposing our fear of letting go and falling. Perseverance is our supreme effort of refusing to believe that our hero is going to be conquered. Our greatest fear is not that we will be damned, but that somehow Jesus Christ will be defeated. Also, our fear is that the very things our Lord stood for— love, justice, forgiveness, and kindness among men— will not win out in the end and will represent an unattainable goal for us. Then there is the call to spiritual perseverance. A call not to hang on and do nothing, but to work deliberately, knowing with certainty that God will never be defeated.

If our hopes seem to be experiencing disappointment right now, it simply means that they are being purified. Every hope or dream of the human mind will be fulfilled if it is noble and of God. But one of the greatest stresses in life is the stress of waiting for God. He brings fulfillment, “because you have kept My command to persevere . . .” (Revelation 3:10).
Continue to persevere spiritually.

day twenty two: you really got a hold on me

I commend you fashion bloggers who look fabulous everyday and take adorable pictures. Today has been a challenge in many ways (such is life), but I'm so thankful for sweet friends who encourage me and tell me exactly what I need to hear.

I stopped Elizabeth's blog Delightfully Tacky earlier and was pleased to find three videos of her performing at an open mic night. Be sure to visit her blog, she has a lovely voice!

a few fav remixers

Hello dear readers! I've enjoyed sharing my 30x30 remix outfit pictures with you; it seems unbelievable that the 30 days are almost over. There have been a number of times when I sat on my bed staring into my closet at my 30 items, completely clueless as how to put outfits together. It has been challenging, but in the very best way. I've been pushed to put pieces together in new ways that I never would have thought of before. I am excited to see what I can do with my entire wardrobe after these 30 days are over.

It has been fun and inspiring to see the outfits that other remixers have come up with. There are literally hundreds of beautiful ladies participating in this challenge. I want to share with you a handful of my favorites.

To see a list of all the remixers go here.

Kate of Undeniable Style is a sassy small town girl living in San Francisco.

Tania of What Would A Nerd Wear is a grad student in the midwest, trying to make the most of a limited wardrobe and budget.

Linley of Dwelling and Telling is a newly wed sharing her perspective on life and style.

Elisabeth of Mission Closet is a fashion blogger from San Francisco's Mission District.

Kelsey of Snappy Casual is a fashion blogger from Iowa on a small budget.

Collette of Statements in Fashion is a news editor and freelance writer in fashion journalism, not to mention, one hot mama!

day eighteen: my heart will go on

I just got home from babysitting and I am rushing around like a crazy person. I have a tasting to prepare for tonight, plus I want/need to work on my resume and cover letter for a job I want to apply for. I better keep this short and get busy. Happy Friday!

day seventeen: come back when you can

There are so many things I could say about this outfit. It is very much thrown together and random, but I kind of like it that way. I went to bed late and got up early this morning to babysit.

Last night, Ashlee and I had the pleasure of seeing some of our favorite musicians, Barcelona. We arrived at the venue early, as usual, and ran into Chris and Brian. They told us they wouldn't be on for over an hour, so we told them that we were going to The Matador and they were welcome to join us. As soon as Ashlee and I stepped into the Matador we ran into the owner, who we've met on a number of occasions, and he said, "Hey! It's our two biggest fans!" We were seated and he brought over complimentary shots for us. So sweet!

Then the Barcelona boys arrived and we caught up over drinks before heading back for their set. It's probably been a couple years since we last saw them perform in Los Angeles. They played some of their new stuff and now I'm very excited for their album to be released. I appreciate them taking the time to hang out and talk with us; I don't know how many bands do that. They are really great guys and I wish them the best of luck on their tour. See if they are coming to your city on their facebook page.

day sixteen: you haven't seen the last of me

This outfit was inspired by my mom's friend, who I fondly call aunt. She wore something similar to our Pastor's funeral on Saturday. I really like the belt and how it pulls the outfit together. A big thanks to Ashlee for letting me borrow it. This was the first day in the challenge that I couldn't take pictures outside because of the weather. It has decided to snow today, so Ashlee suggested the garage. I kind of like it.

Also, if you happened to listen to the (Adam Young) Owl City song to Taylor Swift I wrote about on Valentines Day, check out Adam's blog post.
