Wardrobe Wednesday

It has been awhile since I've done a Wardrobe Wednesday post. I have a ton of pictures from past weekends when I actually wear something other than scrubby jeans and tshirts, but I haven't gotten around to posting them. Maybe I'll do one massive post soon with old pictures. Here are two outfits I wore Sunday- one to church and one after church. Oh! And you get to see my new hair!

Bracelets: JCrew

14 years in the making

My eleven year old self is going to be living her dream tomorrow night as I go to see Hanson perform. I am a BIG fan. I was the girl with the Hanson tshirts, pictures on my binders, posters on my wall, books on my shelf, VHS tapes, CDs, etc. I even made an entire album with cut-outs from magazines like Bop-It, 16 and Tiger Beat. I was made fun of and ridiculed mercilessly by my peers for liking those three brothers with the long hair, but I could have cared less. Tomorrow night I am planning on having the time of my life as I will FINALLY get to see Hanson! I can only hope that they play Mmmbop and Penny and Me!

Music Monday: Schuyler Fisk-From Where I'm Standing

This is a clip from the movie I'm Reed Fish. I saw the movie three years ago and it was the first time I heard Schuyler Fisk sing. I instantly fell in love with her voice. I love the song Paperweight she sings with Joshua Radin too; I just melt when I hear it. I recently picked up her cd from the library and I cannot stop listening to it.

As you may know from reading my post on Sunday, I've been having a hard time. I know that life will never be easy, but lately I have felt so weary and beaten down. Luckily, this week was much better than last week even though it started out rough.

I have taken better care of myself and I'm feeling good. After getting my hair done (red!), working out four times (Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred), and a couple new dresses (Target will be my downfall), I feel happier, more confident and ready for whatever is next for me.

I have to admit I'm still a little heartbroken, but I believe with all my heart that God knows what is best for me and I am surrendering my life and the people in my life to Him. I know I've said the same thing before, but this time I feel like I'm finally letting go of the past.

I am once again learning how to trust. It is scary, but it is also freeing.

Currently I am reading Beautiful Things Happen When A Women Trusts God, by Sheila Walsh. I just started Chapter Eight called, Trusting God with Your Fear- The Beauty of Taking a Step Forward. Oh the irony. It is exactly what I need to hear, but I suppose God knew that.

The chapter began with this quote:

Let us be like a bird for a moment perched
On a frail branch when he sings;
Though he feels it bend, yet he sings his song.
Knowing that he has wings.
-Victor Hugo

Shelia also included these verses from Proverbs. I've heard them many times before, as they are some of my go-to verses, but I've never read them from the Message paraphrase before.

Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don't try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he's the one who will keep you on track. Don't assume that you know it all. Run to God!
Proverbs 3:5-7 MSG

God is so good. Even when life is hard, God is still good. Even though I'm still uncertain with where I'm headed I can finally place my complete trust in God and His plan for my life.

Music Monday: Seth Bernard & Daisy May- Shine On

My sweet friend Janelle posted this video on my wall Friday. I find this song so inspiring and beautiful. I hope you enjoy it too.

Knocked me off of my feet
But I think it's time for me to start walking again,
Stop running away from things.
Next time you see me,
I will be singing a new song
I am learning to shine on.

Shine on, shine on,
There'll be time enough for darkness when everything's gone.
Shine on, shine on,
There is work to be done in the dark before dawn.

It's been hard not to give in,
And it ain't easy living in hard times.
I know it's weighing on your mind.
Next time you see me,
I'll be uplifting, yes I will give you hope!
I am learning as I go to shine on.

Shine on, shine on.
There'll be time enough for darkness before everything's gone.
Shine on, shine on,
There is work to be done in the dark before dawn.

I know how dark it seems,
Feel it coming up inside of me,
And I feel it in you too, in everything you do.
Next time you see me,
We'll both be laughing, oh just to be alive!
We are learning to shine, shine on.

Shine on, shine on.
There'll be time enough for darkness when everything's gone
Shine on, shine on.
There is work to be done in the dark before dawn.

There is work to be done,
So you you've got to shine on.

you gotta be kind to yourself

To call these past couple weeks difficult would be an understatement. I've been struggling. A lot. Between work and things in my personal life I've reached a breaking point.

I feel sort of stupid for getting so upset because I know in the whole scheme of things what I'm experiencing isn't the absolute worst thing, but right now I'm heartbroken. I feel stupid for not guarding my heart better and for getting my hopes up once again.

I will be okay eventually. I know I will, but for awhile I'm giving myself permission to be sad and heal.

I want to start taking better care of myself. I think it will help me feel better and move on.

To begin, I am no longer working 60 hour weeks. It is too much to handle, emotionally and physically. Next, I am jumping head first into the new Bible study we are doing at church. Tomorrow I am getting my hair cut and colored as a treat for myself. Also, I am planning to get back into an exercise routine and give myself weekly manis and pedis. Lastly, I am giving myself permission to cry; sometimes there is nothing more healing than a good cry.

I need time, but I think these few small things will help me move forward and boost my confidence.

"Remember that everyone you meet is afraid of something, loves something and has lost something." - H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Dear Heather,

God knew just what I needed to hear. He always does.

From your limited human perspective, it may look as if I'm mismanaging things. But you don't know what I know or see what I see. If I pulled back the curtain to allow you to view heavenly realms, you would understand much more. However, I have designed you to live by faith and not by sight.
Jesus Calling, Sarah Young

If you’re battling with trusting God for His perfect will in your life, Let Go. Seriously. God loves you so much you’ll always get your way…but chances are you won’t be happy. Just trust the Lord knows what’s best for you, even if that means not having a clearly defined path.

Music Monday: A Fine Frenzy

I would like to thank Janelle for getting me hooked on A Fine Frenzy. I just adore Alison Sudol. Her voice is delightful and her style is fabulous. She makes me want to dye my hair red, pack a cute vintage suitcase, lace up my oxfords and go on a whimsical adventure with some woodland creatures.

If I were old, my dearest, you would be older but I would crawl upon your lap wrap a blanket 'round our frail little shoulders and I'd die happily like that

From your lips a precipice, I hang on every word

I can't help it, I love you like a starfish loves the salty water, like a selfish daughter. Yet I wrote the words to the swan song, the author of every wrong.

I think of you whenever life gets me down I think of you whenever you're not around.

Is there a chance you may change your mind or are we ashes and wine?

Dear God,

Dear God, You have this all figured out right? Some encouragement would be appreciated. Thanks. Love, Heather
